Jared Hammond is the Executive Chef at Charleston’s classic French restaurant, Brasserie la Banque.
Hammond first developed an interest in food at a young age when he spent time hunting, fishing, and cooking alongside his mother. When it was time to start paying for his own expenses, he picked up a restaurant job in his hometown of Mount Vernon, IL – beginning as a busboy at a local establishment and eventually working his way up to the lead grill cook position. Drawn to the fast-paced kitchen culture, Hammond decided to enhance his skills at Rend Lake College and graduated with an associate degree in culinary arts. After college, Hammond worked at lauded restaurants across the Southeast, where he was able to finesse his culinary expertise in a variety of cuisines, including French fare.
Over the years, he expanded his skillset and industry knowledge, and in 2022, Hammond officially joined the Brasserie la Banque team as Executive Chef. Here, Hammond aspires to create a lasting culinary experience for each restaurant guest and a positive work environment for his team. Hammond also works closely with local purveyors and farmers to transform their products into the inventive, French-inspired dishes for which Brasserie la Banque is known. For him, it’s essential that the menu resembles the restaurant – both technically driven and artistically beautiful.
When he’s not in the kitchen, Hammond enjoys exploring both Charleston’s vibrant restaurant scene and nearby nature trails with his fiancé and their dog.
