Koky Lòpez

Bar Manager

Koky Lòpez, Bar Manager of Brasserie la Banque and Bar Vautè in Charleston, SC, was born and raised on the island of Puerto Rico. She was introduced to the hospitality industry at an early age while working for her parent’s catering business. While she studied Education in English as a Second Language and Criminology in school, Lòpez also became involved in the food and beverage scene in Puerto Rico. She began actively pursuing beverage education and participating in bartender competitions, eventually receiving Puerto Rico’s esteemed “Bartender Of the Year” award in 2012. The accolade not only secured her place in the industry, but it also fueled her passion and encouraged her to expand her beverage knowledge. While teaching Mixology and Culinary Arts at NUC University (previously IBC), she opened a place of her own at the young age of 22 called ‘El Fuego Cantina y Restaurante’— a Mexican taqueria with a specialized agave selection. After years of teaching mixology, Lòpez left her beloved island and became a traveling bartender, focusing on consulting for upcoming concepts; she worked for 20 bars and restaurants in territories across the United States including Florida, Ohio, Louisiana, Oregon and more, all while representing several spirits as a nationwide brand ambassador. After visiting Charleston, SC for a restaurant consultation project, she felt right at home in the Lowcountry, which offered a welcoming community, a vibrant food and beverage scene, and coastal weather. She then accepted a bartending position at Indaco, an Italian-inspired restaurant located on Charleston’s lively upper King Street. In November 2021, she joined Brasserie la Banque’s opening team, where she now leads the popular neighborhood French brasserie’s beverage program and develops cocktails for its sister concept, and the city’s only underground bar, Bar Vauté. Bringing her vast knowledge and experience from her travels, Lòpez is passionate about creating a fully sustainable, seasonal, and creative bar program. One of her favorite aspects of working at Brasserie la Banque is getting to know and establish relationships with the locals and tourists that come by the bar. When Lòpez is not crafting creative libations, you can find her spending quality time with her three children at brunch, planning a road trip with them (with an epic playlist, of course), or educating herself on environmental and cultural issues.
